Before: Unsafe, Unorganized, & Unappealing

The building they used as an office was far from inviting.

The staircase had been pieced together from plywood and scrap lumber, and it wobbled precariously with each step. Without a railing, it was unsafe for employees, let alone clients.

The bathroom consisted of drywall and a lone toilet perched on a cold concrete slab. Shelving cluttered the space, filled with disorganized cabinetry that made selecting materials overwhelming for anyone who entered.

The business owners imagined a showroom that inspired their clients while providing a safe, functional space for their team. They envisioned a seamless blend of reclaimed materials, clever design, and thoughtful craftsmanship to reflect their values and style.

Designing and Crafting a Two-Toned Custom Staircase Showpiece

The custom staircase was the first major challenge. Using tiles and lumber salvaged from a previous project, the team worked meticulously to create a cohesive design. Since the tiles didn’t fit the existing dimensions, they were resized evenly to preserve the symmetry of their striking pattern. The salvaged lumber presented another challenge: there wasn’t enough to cover the staircase, landing, and railing.

By introducing a slightly different-toned lumber for the landing and trim, the team turned necessity into an intentional two-toned feature. Every piece of wood was carefully mapped out on the floor before installation to minimize waste. The end result was a sturdy, visually stunning custom staircase with ribbed brown railings and perfectly aligned treads that the owners proudly showcased to every visitor.

The original bathroom was barely one step above a Honey Bucket. Bare drywall. A concrete floor. A freestanding toilet. That’s it.

Built using ReFind’s repurposed cabinetry and topped with rich granite, the space allowed clients to visualize the potential of reclaimed materials. The old concrete floor, battered by years of machinery, received a much-needed facelift. Using a high-strength concrete leveler, our team repaired the damage and floated the entire surface to create a smooth, uniform look.
